At Shine Music School we would like to present our resident Suzuki piano, flute and violin teacher Sarah Leard. Sarah is a registered Suzuki Australia teacher and applies the art of Suzuki method teaching to students as young as one years old. With a mix of rhythm games, singing and successfully applying the Suzuki method, Sarah can ensure children of all ages pick play an instrument from an early age.
Sarah has two young boys aged 1 and 3 who are now very proficient at piano and violin playing, Apart from just teaching her own children, Sarah has taught over 500 students in her life time.
A Suzuki piano, flute or violin lesson with Sarah can be described as going to a 'Wiggles concert' with lots of fun and games to ensure that the young student is constantly interacting and having lots of fun learning. Her lessons must be experienced to be believed.
It is without a doubt that Sarah's music lessons will motivate and deliver the most enjoyable musical experience possible for any aged student.

The Suzuki method of teaching was developed by Dr Suzuki of Japan using the same philosophy used as a child would learn to speak their native language from their parents.
Quoted from the Suzukimusic.org.au website:
When a child learns to speak, the following factors are at work:
The Suzuki system works with younger children since it does not require them to read notes first, just like you don't teach a two year old to read before you teach them to speak. Teaching students to read music will come later on when their minds mature enough and when they have started to have reading ability.
More valuable information on the history of the Suzuki method can be found here.
Like any methodology applied to any sort of instrument or learning, there are always going to be varying interpretations and results from different teachers. When it comes to music teachers, most Australian music teachers will be trained in the 'English/Conservatorium' style of teaching methodology of note reading that is reflected in the teaching and examination requirements of the Australian Music Examinations Board.
Suzuki based teachers in Australia will then be teachers who have then studied and adopted the Suzuki philosophy to their approach to educating their students on how to play instruments. In Australia there are many successful piano players and teachers who have come through the Suzuki training and there are also successful piano players and teachers who teach and learn using the 'English/Conservatorium' style of teaching.
Suzuki Australian facilitates their own level based exams and are not affiliated with the Australian Music Examinations Board. Both styles of exams are beneficial to students who are interested in exams, it is a matter of choosing which is more appropriate.
Both methods have their varying successes and obvious points of differences so it is highly advisable to call Shine Music School on 96879978 and make an appointment to talk to one of our teachers to discuss which method of teaching is most applicable to you or your child.
Different children and students have different learning needs and development so it is best to discuss this so that we can find the best solution for you.
